1930s flying lessons: From Alan Lampe, a friend of Warbirds Unlimited. His father, Al Lampe (1910-1995) took flying lessons in the early 1930's in Nebraska. Below are notes he took during his lessons. (Alan reports a hard landing changed his fathers mind about pursuing additional training):
30 Missions to return Home: Submitted by Warbirds Unlimited volunteer Kenny Polzin. The below record is from a Polzin family friend who completed his 30 missions in B-17s serving with the 546th bomb Squadron, 384th bomb group of the Eighth Air Force operating out of Grafton Underwood air field in England in early 1944. Details of the 384th bomb group and the specific mission statistics and details on each of the missions listed below are available on the 8th Air Force Historical Society website:
